Drifting Leaves

Commissioned by Flowers Hospital

Drifting Leaves is a suspended sculpture designed for the four-story atrium of Flowers Hospital. Composed of hand-brushed stainless steel, the piece features stylized leaves from the region’s primary crop—peanuts—floating gently in space, evoking a sense of calm and continuity within the medical setting.

Dozens of leaves are suspended from aircraft cable at varied heights, creating a vertical choreography that is visible from each level of the atrium’s windowed walkways. The light-catching surfaces shift with the movement of air and changes in light, echoing the motion of leaves drifting on a southern breeze.

Minimal, reflective, and serene, the installation offers an organic counterpoint to the architectural structure—inviting moments of pause and uplift for patients, staff, and visitors alike.
